Introduction
We thought the best way to describe our local environment is to see
it from the eyes of a seven year oldboy living in Ferndale.
From
my bedroom window
My
name is Justin and I am seven years old. I live in Ferndale
and I go to Darren Park Primary School. My house overlooks
Blaenllechau. From my bedroom window I can see houses, the
mountains, some flowers that my neighbour has planted, the sky and
sometimes I can even see a sheep!
My
neighbour also grows strawberries and he lets me pick them and they
are juicy to eat when they are red but not nice when they are green!
He is able to grow daffodils and they are beautiful in the Spring.
He gives me bulbs to plant in my garden.
What
I like to do
When
the sun is shining I like to play with my friends on the banking
and we have to be careful because it is slippery and we have fallen
a few times. I also like to walk along the river path with my gran
and I have seen a heron, tits and robins. I look out for birds and
wild flowers. I have seen a whole row of white and pink foxgloves.
There are many wild flowers and I like to pick them to take home
for my mother.
I have
seen small fish in the river swirling and jumping in the water.
I see different things at different times of the year and things
look different at night when I can see frogs and I have even seen
a bat. It was black and brown and it had fangs. It was
feeding on caterpillars. I was a little afraid of it.
Early
in the morning I have seen a squirrel collecting nuts to store for
the winter. I have seen a grey rat carrying a banana skin. It had
a really long tail and I was a bit scared.
What
I like best are the butterflies; I have noticed little white butterflies
and I have seen Red Admiral. It had red and black dots and it was
very pretty. I really like to catch ladybirds and let them crawl
up my arm but then I let them go.
