The Legend of Guto Nyth Bran

A long time ago there lived a very special boy named Griffith Morgan. He lived on a small sheep farm called Nyth Bran Farm, which overlooked Ferndale.
He was known to his friends as Guto and he loved to run up hills and over mountains.
The story goes that his mother would ask him to go to the shop which was miles away from the farm, she would put the kettle on to boil and before it boiled he would be back home.
Guto's father didn't need a sheep dog as Guto would chase the sheep into the pens for him. One day he took longer than usual because he had trouble with a little brown one, his father laughed when he seen it because it was a hare in the pen not a sheep.
Guto's sweetheart was Sian, she lived in a shop called Sian Shop. They were very much in love and together made a lot of money from the winnings of Guto's races.
As they grew older Guto run against older boys and men whom he would easily beat.
At the age of 37 Guto run his last race. It was arranged by Sian and Guto was to run against a man named Prince of Bedwas. At that time Guto was quite old. All the village turned out to see Guto and Prince race. Prince was much younger and he also had a lot of followers. It was a long race from Newport to Bedwas.
Prince's followers tried to stop Guto winning by throwing glass in his path, but nothing was going to stop him winning. Guto flew past Prince and won.
All the villagers congratulated him, slapping him hard on the back. Sian went to congratulate him after collecting all their winnings but Guto was exhausted and died at Sian's feet.
The villagers carried Guto back to Llanwonno and buried him in the graveyard of the parish church where he still lies today.
Guto Nyth Bran was the most famous runner Wales has ever known.
